So after today’s second viewing here are my thoughts on the latest addition to the Star Wars family...
It’s a film that will divide, of the 4 of us that went to the midnight showing 1 liked it, 1 wasn’t sure how he felt, 1 was very underwhelmed and a little angry... and 1 of us snored.... lots....
For me...
It’s fucking great! It takes a shit ton of risks and a lot of them really pay off, it builds on the overall lore of the Jedi it doesn’t take the easy or safe route on the story front (it’s absolutely not a retread of Empire) and so the story could literally go anywhere in ep IX. The Character development is a lovely subtle little thing within a story that’s both big and small at the same time.
Obviously it has its flaws... Canto Bight I’m looking at you...
But overall I’m loving what Rian Johnson has done and can’t wait to see him bring more to our favourite galaxy with his trilogy!
