Jurassic Park Fallen Kingdom

Writer: redlionpictureredlionpicture

{May contain some spoilers} So!... I was very skeptical of this going in as I'm really on the fence with the previous movie in the series Jurrasic world (of which I enjoyed the moments of nostalgia and the big Dino cinematic sequences but was worried they'd turn it into a forgettable Hollywood monster movie franchise) and after watching both teaser and official trailers my worry grew greater than ever but honestly I have to say...I wasn't nearly worried enough for this!

In the words of Ian Malcom himself "That is one big pile of shit!" and it really was..

So the story finds our Dinos in danger of extinction (again) as on the Isle of Isla Nublar a huge volcano is about to erupt and wipe these creatures off the face of the planet (again) the U.S senate refuses to help so its down to our hero's Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard), Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and their geeky (save the planet) gang to save them by getting as many species off the island as possible including Gradys Pet/ Best friend/ Pack member/ Weapon but not a weapon but it is but only when Grady feels convenient / Companion, Blue.

Guys, this is pretty much the story...I've not included all the filler stuff as i'm sure many of you would cry "SPOILER" but seriously...you'll see any potential twist coming a mile off! really!..they are that obvious!

To me the whole story felt like they just re vamped "Jurassic Park The Lost world" There were so many similarities it was embarrassingly obvious, the dying old man convincing an expert to go back to the island, exporting the Dinos off the island, hidden agendas, nursing a wounded Dino and I swear to god there was a scene that looked like the it had literally been copied and pasted from TLW! The stuff that didn't feel like a rehash was just Boring, Hollywood, Monster movie bullshit! It had throwaway one liners, side characters with absolutely no substance to them whatsoever (just blindly doing things just cause..) shitty fight sequences, a Hollywood jumping explosion scene (Blue does this btw and yeah its pretty cringy) a predictable story with predictable twists, the same shitty villainous Dino monster from Jurassic World (and no its not a spoiler as its plastered all over the trailers ) and cheesy generic operatic score which I assume was used to heighten the villains malice (Its a carnivorous dinosaur!! no score would've worked just the same Universal Studios Entertainment)

All that being said, I cant fault the CGI and set design as visually there were some scenes that look cinematically extraordinary but honestly after twenty-five years and five movies... its to be expected!

All in all this fails on almost every level and that's predominantly down to a rehash plot, terrible written/ throwaway characters (not so much from our leads..although there seems to be little to no report between Dallas Howard or Pratt at all) and predictable twists, I can't say i'm disappointed as I knew it wasn't going to be anything special just from watching the trailers but I never thought it was going to be this bad!

2/10 Nick RLP
